After my life changing surgery a feeling started to grown inside me that I have to change from mammy’s little princes to a responsible adult. I was 20 and my mom did everything for me. Cooked for me, cleaned my room, woke up in the middle of the night to make nice and hot bath for me when I came home from a party. Ohh and the delicious hot chocolates what she made and bring into my room to wake me up or night time to say sweet dreams. I think I couldn’t get more perfect mom from life. But, was I the perfect daughter for her? NO. I was loudmouthed and stubborn. I wasn’t an excellent student, did not help at all around a house. We had different point of view about everything and I did not not accept any advice from her. If I could go back in time I would do everything differently. Especially keep my mouth shut and do the house works instead of her, who was working 12 long hours to make enough money to cover our needs. But unfortunately time machine isn’t invented yet so maybe I can make her proud when she sees the person I became.
How I ended up in England in a blink of an eye?
A friend of mine were lived in Harlow, UK and we used to talk on phone. At the very beginning of my summer school holiday I told him, I would be happy to go to England and work there till end of the summer in order save money for the new school year. That’s how I wanted to make my mom life a little bit easier. A couple of days later he told me there is hotel where is a room attendant position is available. So he booked for me flight ticket and he promised that he will wait for me at the airport. Wooow… I was shocked…but excited at the same time. After the big family Sunday lunch I told my whole family I going to England. I still can hear they laugh and jokes and sarcasm about it.
- who gonna make you hot chocolates over there?
- will you pack Pannika (my mom’s nick name) into your luggage?
I think they did not believe I will leave until my plane took off from the runway.
To summaries I am 20 years old, sitting on the plain for the first time in my life heading to London , don’t have phone, money and cant speak any English. Oh wait its not entirely true because I knew 5 worlds yes/no/I love you. But I was determined and wanted to make my family proud.
First flight like a geography class?
My first flight was pretty quick and boring. All I wanted to do just sit next to the window and enjoy the view, experience the fly, think about my past and planning my future. Instead of this I was listening or lets just say I was pretend to listen my geography teacher. He was going to see his daughter in London and he sat right next to me. He kept educating me about where we are right now, what beneath us right now, which river, lake or mountain we can see. The 2 hours and 20 minutes private geography class finally finished, BIG THANKS for the landing. Ever since the squeaking noise of the breaking tires always remind me to this memory. Something like a Pavlov reflex.
English weather was just like in movies and articles, gloomy, rainy, foggy… Welcome in the Great Britain I thought,my day can not be worst … but only 15 minutes later I realized it can. Thousands of people on the airport, some of them holding signs with names, some of them just looking for they beloved ones with exciting happy eyes. My eyes was nervous and couldn’t find my friend. He was not there…
So what should I do? Just like I wrote above, I had no money, phone, not even my friend phone number… I was on the edge of collapse. I thought all this idea abroad is a stupid idea and want to go back to Hungary. But how if no money for my return ticket??? I was still looking around as a maniac and saw two police officers with huge weapons. And then the craziest idea came in my mind. Shout as loud as I can : BOMB BOMB. So the police officers will arresting me and send back to Hungary. I started to gather all my courage and take a big breath to shout. And the very last second my friend stepped in front of me….
- sorry, I was late.
